The Shaw Nature Reserve of the Missouri Botanical Garden is a 2,400-acre natural area located just south of Interstate-44 in Gray Summit. Its close proximity to St. Louis allows easy access for visitors of all ages to experience the natural beauty of our region and to learn about the history of this unique attraction.

Visit more than one thousand live tropical butterflies fly freely in the glass conservatory at the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House. Watch a butterfly emerge from a chrysalis right before your eyes. Go outside to spy local pollinators and migrating species in the Native Butterfly Garden.
